  Mexican Guitarist and Composer Ricardo Paz has performed throughout the United States and Mexico, including Weber State University, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah State University and Springville Museum of Art in Utah among others. Street Magazine has described his playing as “Full of precision, delicacy, and pure clarity. It was a privilege to see and hear this performance”. Ricardo started studying guitar at a young age in his native Mexico with Luis Robert, Manuel López Ramos and composition with Humberto Hernández Medrano in the Polyphonic Studies Workshop. Ricardo studied at the National School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico where he obtained a Bachelor of Music Degree under the guidance of Juan Carlos Laguna. His guitar studies brought him to the United States where he completed both a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in Arizona State University under the tutelage of Frank Koonce. Ricardo has been the recipient of numerous International awards such as the Special Talent Award, Louis Lincoln Kerr Music Endowment, Richard & Babette Burns Scholarship and K. Herberger Scholarship from Arizona State University. Ricardo has also been an adjudicator for the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America symposiums in both Phoenix and Las Vegas in the college categories and for the Norman Douglas Sholin Guitar Competition in the University of Arizona.
  Ricardo also won the prestigious Mexican National Fund for Culture and Arts scholarship for post- graduate studies abroad on two occasions. In addition to his performing career, Ricardo Paz is the guitar teacher at Capital High School in the Santa Fe Public Schools, artistic director of the Annual Santa Fe Guitar Ensemble Festival in New Mexico and a Member –at Large- with the NAFME Council for Guitar Education.

  “Entre Cuerdas” is a composition written in 2019 for the 1st Annual Santa Fe Guitar Ensemble Festival and inspired by Mexican Lucha Libre “Mexican Freestyle Wrestling” and Mexican Cumbia. In the spirit of this unique piece, “Entre Cuerdas” suggests the guitarists to use Wrestling Masks and perform inside a boxing ring.
